Password resets might be on the way out
Forgotten passwords and endless reset emails waste time for everyone. Microsoft has announced that passkeys can now be synced across your devices using your Microsoft Account in Edge. Passkeys are a password-free sign-in method that uses your device security (Face ID, fingerprint, or a PIN) instead of a typed password—making sign-ins faster and far less vulnerable to phishing.
What Edge syncing changes
Until now, passkeys were often stored only on the device where you created them—so replacing a laptop could mean losing access. With Edge’s update, passkeys can be securely stored and synced in the cloud, protected by your Microsoft Account plus an additional PIN via Microsoft Password Manager. Microsoft says synced passkeys are encrypted and protected with multiple layers of security. For businesses, this can mean fewer lockouts, fewer passwords reset tickets, and better protection against weak or reused passwords.
